Toys and gifts

Toys and gifts on marketplaces: compliant, visible and ready for Christmas.

Toys and gifts sell in big seasonal waves, and marketplaces are tightening up on safety. We run your listings, stock and promotions so your range is compliant, visible and in stock when the busy weeks arrive.

Book a 20-minute demoWhat we do
The problem

In toys and gifts, one missed season or one safety problem can undo a year's work.

We keep your listings compliant, protect your products from copycats and plan each season early, so the busy weeks are spent dispatching orders, not fixing problems. We can also get your products into the right independent gift shops and bookshops through retail and wholesale.

Safety rules you can't skip

Toys need the right marking, documents, warnings and traceability details. Missing information can get listings removed.

Unsafe copies undercut you

Cheap lookalikes from unknown sellers compete on price and damage trust in the whole category.

Christmas comes once

If listings, stock and advertising aren't ready well before December, the season goes to someone else.

Where to sell

The channels that suit you. And why.

Amazon

Huge reach for toys and gifts all year, and especially before Christmas. Some types of toys and games need Amazon's approval first.

Argos

A household name for toys. Its marketplace opened in 2026 with around 80 selected sellers, including toy maker Bigjigs Toys.

Marketplace guide →

eBay

Broad reach for toys, collectibles and gifts. eBay requires all toys to meet CE or UKCA toy safety rules.

Marketplace guide →

TikTok Shop

Toys and gifts show well in short videos, which can drive sudden demand around trends and gifting seasons.

Marketplace guide →

OnBuy

A UK general marketplace that can add steady extra sales for established toy and gift ranges.

Watch out for

What makes this category different.

UK toy safety law

The Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 cover products for play by children under 14. Manufacturers must carry out a safety assessment, draw up a declaration of conformity and technical documentation, and keep them for 10 years. Great Britain now accepts either UKCA or CE marking, with no end date.

Traceability and warnings

Each toy must carry a type, batch, serial or model number, plus the manufacturer's and importer's names and addresses (on the packaging where they can't go on the toy). Warnings must be in English and clearly visible. OPSS says regular sellers on online marketplaces are not exempt.

Marketplaces are under pressure on safety

In June 2026 the British Toy & Hobby Association found 90% of 89 toys bought from third-party marketplace sellers failed UK toy safety rules. The Product Regulation and Metrology Act 2025 lets government place duties on online marketplaces, and a 2026 consultation proposed that marketplaces must act with due care to remove dangerous products.

A short, intense peak

Christmas accounts for 23% of annual UK toy sales, around £0.9 billion. Stock, listings and advertising need to be in place well before December, and some marketplaces set extra requirements for sellers: eBay, for example, only lets UK business sellers with a proven track record sell baby toys.

How we help

What we do for you.

Safety details in every listing

We make sure age grading, warnings, safety information and identifiers are complete and consistent across every marketplace you sell on.

Listing optimisation →

Protection from copycats

We monitor your listings for lookalike and unauthorised sellers and use marketplace brand tools to report them.

Brand protection →

Christmas planning from late summer

We plan stock levels, listing updates, promotions and advertising backwards from your peak, so nothing is left to November.

Retailer marketplace applications

We prepare your product data and help you apply to selective marketplaces such as Argos, where safety and quality are part of the assessment.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Do our toys need UKCA or CE marking?
Toys sold in Great Britain need one of them. The government has extended recognition of CE marking indefinitely, so you can use either CE or UKCA. The marking must be backed by a safety assessment, a declaration of conformity and technical documentation.
Can we sell baby toys on eBay?
Only as a UK-registered business seller with a track record. eBay asks for at least 90 days of selling history, 100 or more transactions and £1,000 or more in sales in the last 12 months, plus an Above Standard or Top Rated account.
When should we start preparing for Christmas?
Late summer is a sensible starting point. Christmas is the biggest moment in the toy calendar, worth 23% of annual UK toy sales. Listings, images and stock should be ready before shoppers start searching, with advertising planned ahead rather than switched on at the last minute.
Can we sell on the Argos marketplace?
Argos chooses its sellers and products, with a focus on quality, product safety and customer confidence. It soft-launched in August 2026 with around 80 sellers. Clean product data, full safety documentation and reliable delivery all help an application. In a free 20-minute demo we look at your products and talk through whether a retailer marketplace like Argos is a sensible next step.
What does it cost for a toy or gift business?
Seasonal ranges benefit from regular attention: promotions, competitor insights and, if you want it, marketplace advertising through the Christmas peak. Costs depend on the channels you want to sell on, how many products you have and how much help you need. We give you a clear quote after a free 20-minute demo.
