eBay at a glance
Who can sellAny UK business, on a business seller account. Business accounts are charged different fees from private sellers.
Monthly feeNone required. Optional eBay Shops cost £27 (Basic), £77 (Featured) or £437 (Anchor) a month, excluding VAT.
Listing fees30p per listing without a Shop. Shops include a free monthly allowance, from 250 fixed price listings on Basic to unlimited on Anchor.
Selling feesA final value fee on the total sale including postage, set by category, plus £0.30 per order (£0.40 on orders over £10) and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee.
AdvertisingPromoted Listings: pay a percentage only when an item sells (general) or pay per click (priority).
Seller standardsTop Rated Sellers get 10% off final value fees on Premium Service listings. Below Standard sellers pay an extra 6 percentage points.
Best forWide catalogues, spares and parts, tools, electricals, and refurbished or end-of-line stock.
Selling on eBay

Half-finished eBay listings quietly slide down the search results.

Polymerchant keeps your eBay listings complete, your fees visible and your seller level healthy, with stock and orders synced to your other channels and every change approved by you.

Missing item specifics

Item specifics are the structured details on a listing, like brand, size, colour and model, that buyers use as search filters. eBay says complete item specifics are essential for being found on eBay and in external search engines. Leave them blank and you drop out of filtered searches.

Fees that eat margin

Final value fees are charged on postage as well as the item price, and Promoted Listings come on top. Without checking each category's rate, a busy month can still lose money.

Seller level slipping

A transaction defect rate above 2% can make you Below Standard, which adds 6 percentage points to your final value fees. By then, the damage to your sales has usually started.

Is eBay right for you? An honest answer, including when to wait.

A good fit if

  • You sell products buyers search for by exact model, part number or specification, such as spares, tools or electricals.
  • You have a large or varied catalogue and want an eBay Shop that pays for itself through free monthly listings.
  • You already sell on eBay, but your item specifics, photos and postage settings were set up once and never revisited.
  • You can offer free domestic delivery within 3 working days and 30-day returns, which are core parts of eBay Premium Service.

Think twice if

  • You can't commit to fast dispatch and responsive service. Top Rated status needs a transaction defect rate of 0.5% or less, and Below Standard sellers pay higher fees.
  • You can only compete on price against much bigger sellers. Buyers can compare similar listings in seconds, and after fees there may be little margin left.
  • You expect a Shop subscription to bring sales on its own. A Shop cuts listing costs and adds marketing tools, but where you appear in search still depends on Best Match.
How we help

What we do on eBay. Run alongside every other channel, from one catalogue.

Listings built for Best Match

Best Match is eBay's default search order. We keep titles clear and within eBay's 80-character limit, use up to 24 photos (which eBay includes free) and complete every listing, because completeness and quality are part of how Best Match ranks you.

Listing optimisation →

Item specifics in bulk

We map your product data (brand, model, size, colour, EAN or MPN) into eBay's required and recommended item specifics across your whole catalogue, so updates happen in bulk rather than one listing at a time.

Product feeds →

Pricing and fee checks

We compare your prices with similar listings and check the final value fee for each category, so promotions and postage pricing still leave a profit.

Pricing and Buy Box →

Seller level and Top Rated status

We track defects, cases closed without seller resolution and late deliveries against eBay's limits. Top Rated Sellers get 10% off the variable part of final value fees on Premium Service listings.

Account health →

Promoted Listings management

We run general campaigns, where you pay an ad rate only if an item sells within 30 days of a click, and priority campaigns, where you pay per click. We stop spend that doesn't pay back.

Marketplace advertising →

Orders, tracking and returns

We handle day-to-day orders, upload tracking and keep your postage and returns settings in line with eBay's standards.

Getting started

How you get on eBay.

1

Free 20-minute demo

Tell us your eBay shop or seller name. In a free 20-minute demo we look at your products and where you sell today, show where eBay fits and what it would cost, and walk you through how a launch works. Book a free demo.

2

Account and Shop review

We confirm you're on a business account in your company's name and work out whether a Basic, Featured or Anchor Shop, or no Shop at all, suits your listing volume.

3

Listing clean-up

We fix titles, item specifics, photos, postage and returns, starting with your best sellers so the changes show where they matter most.

4

Approve and review

Nothing changes without your approval. We report monthly, or weekly if you need it, and adjust as eBay's fees and rules change.

FAQ

eBay questions.

Do I need an eBay Shop subscription?
No. You can sell as a business without one. A Shop gives you a free monthly listing allowance (250 fixed price listings on Basic, 1,500 on Featured and unlimited on Anchor, subject to fair use), a shopfront and marketing tools. It usually makes sense once your listing fees would cost more than the subscription.
How much does eBay charge per sale?
Business sellers pay a final value fee, a percentage of the total sale including postage that varies by category, plus £0.30 per order on orders of £10 or less and £0.40 above that. For example, most Home, Furniture & DIY items are charged 11.9% on the first £500. A 0.35% regulatory operating fee also applies to every sale, and all of these figures exclude VAT.
What is Best Match?
Best Match is how eBay sorts search results by default. It looks at how closely your listing matches the search, how popular and well priced the item is, the quality and completeness of your listing, your returns and handling terms, and your track record as a seller. Filling in item specifics is one of the simplest ways to improve it.
How do I become a Top Rated Seller?
You need to be registered as a business seller, have an account at least 90 days old, and have at least 100 transactions and £1,000 in sales over the last 12 months. Your transaction defect rate must be 0.5% or less, with no more than 2 cases closed without seller resolution (or 0.3%) and no more than 5 late deliveries (or 3%). eBay checks this on the 20th of each month.
Are Promoted Listings worth paying for?
They can help listings get seen, but they're a cost on every sale or click, so they need managing. General campaigns charge an ad rate (a percentage of the sale) only when an item sells within 30 days of a click on the ad, while priority campaigns charge per click. Promoted Listings is only available to Above Standard and Top Rated sellers with recent sales.
Have eBay's fees changed recently?
Yes. From 12 February 2026 the per-order fee on orders over £10 rose from £0.30 to £0.40, and some categories went up, such as Business, Office & Industrial from 11.9% to 12.5%. Fees change from time to time, so we check eBay's current fee page before any pricing decision. Our eBay vs Amazon guide compares the two.
