New to marketplaces

Start selling on marketplaces without learning it all the hard way.

You already have products people buy, from your website or your shop. We help you choose the right marketplaces, set up accounts in your company name and launch listings that meet each marketplace's rules from day one.

The problem

Marketplaces look simple from the outside. The setup is where most businesses stall.

We plan and run the launch with you, in your company name, then keep the day-to-day work going so your marketplaces don't depend on spare time.

Too many choices

Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop and a growing list of retailer marketplaces all work differently. Starting in the wrong place costs months and money.

Rules you haven't met yet

Account checks, barcodes, category rules and image standards all take time to learn. Half-finished setups sit untouched for weeks.

A second job nobody has time for

Once listings are live, orders, messages and stock need daily attention. If that falls to whoever has a spare hour, standards slip.

Where to sell

The channels that suit you. And why.

Amazon

Usually the first marketplace to consider, thanks to its reach. A Professional account costs £25 a month plus VAT, with a referral fee on each sale that varies by category.

Marketplace guide →

eBay

A practical first marketplace for many businesses, with flexible listing formats and a broad UK audience.

Marketplace guide →

TikTok Shop

Worth considering if you can make short videos or work with creators, because products sell through content as well as search.

Marketplace guide →

OnBuy

A UK general marketplace that makes a sensible second channel once your product data is in good shape.

Marketplace guide →

Fruugo

A low-commitment way to test overseas demand: no monthly or listing fees, with listings translated and sold in over 40 countries.

Watch out for

What makes this category different.

Choosing where to start

Not every marketplace is open to everyone. Amazon and eBay let any verified business register, but retailer marketplaces pick their sellers. Argos, for example, opened its marketplace in August 2026 with around 80 approved sellers and takes applications. Start where your products, prices and stock levels fit.

Account checks need preparation

To register a business on Amazon UK you need government-issued ID, proof of address such as a recent bank statement, your company registration details, a credit card and bank account details. Amazon says most verifications are completed within 48 hours. Having matching documents ready keeps it simple.

Product data has to meet each marketplace's rules

Copying your website descriptions across rarely works. On Amazon, most product titles must be 200 characters or fewer and can't use the same word more than twice. Many marketplaces, Fruugo included, also require a GTIN (the number behind a product barcode) for every product unless it's exempt.

Fees change your margins

Marketplace costs come in layers: a subscription or per-item fee, a referral fee on each sale, then delivery or fulfilment. On Amazon UK the referral fee is 15% in many categories, with different rates in others. Work out your margin per product before anything goes live.

How we help

What we do for you.

A shortlist and launch plan

We look at your products, prices and stock, recommend which marketplaces to start on and plan the launch in clear steps.

Marketplace launches →

Listings built to each marketplace's rules

We turn your existing product information into a feed that meets each marketplace's data and image rules, then upload and check every listing.

Product feeds →

Accounts set up in your name

We help you open and configure each account in your company name. You approve everything before it goes live and can remove our access at any time.

Marketplace management →

Health checks from day one

New accounts are watched closely. Amazon, for example, expects a late shipment rate below 4% on orders you dispatch yourself. We keep an eye on those numbers so a busy week doesn't put your account at risk.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Which marketplace should we start on?
It depends on your products, prices and how much stock you hold. For many businesses Amazon or eBay comes first because any verified business can register, while retailer marketplaces such as Argos choose their sellers. In a free 20-minute demo we look at your products, show where they could sell first and what it would cost, and walk through how a launch works.
Will selling on marketplaces take sales from our website?
Some customers will always buy direct. Others start every search on a marketplace and may never find your website. We help you set prices that protect your margin on every channel, so you're not competing with yourself.
How long does it take to get set up?
Account verification can be quick: Amazon says most are completed within 48 hours. Listings take longer, because product data, images and barcodes need preparing first. Once we've seen your catalogue we'll give you a realistic plan.
Do we need barcodes for every product?
Usually, yes. Most marketplaces ask for a GTIN, the unique number behind a product barcode, for each product and variation. Some allow exemptions: Fruugo, for example, doesn't require them for personalised or custom-made goods. Our guide to GTINs and barcodes explains the options.
What does it cost for a business that's just starting?
For a business starting out, the work usually covers account setup, product feed creation, listing uploads, health checks, basic order management and a monthly report. Costs depend on the channels you want to sell on, how many products you have and how much help you need. We give you a clear quote after a free 20-minute demo. There's no minimum term.
