DIY and tools

DIY and tools on marketplaces, with the technical detail done right.

Tool and DIY buyers want exact specifications, and the rules on power tools, blades and chemicals are strict. We build detailed, compliant listings and run your marketplaces, from B&Q to Amazon, so the right buyers find the right product.

The problem

DIY and tools reward detail, and punish shortcuts.

We turn your product data into detailed, compliant listings, set the right delivery options and manage your marketplaces week to week.

Specs buyers check

Voltage, power, sizes, fittings and compatibility all decide the sale. Missing details mean lost sales or returns.

Products with legal limits

Bladed tools, corrosive products and chemicals come with age checks, delivery rules and labelling duties.

Heavy, awkward items

Ladders, workbenches and long lengths don't fit standard parcel services, and delivery costs can wipe out the margin.

Where to sell

The channels that suit you. And why.

B&Q

The obvious home for DIY. B&Q verifies every seller on diy.com and lists over 1.2 million products from more than 1,100 sellers.

Marketplace guide →

Amazon

Huge reach for tools and hardware, with Heavy and Bulky delivery options for items over 30kg or 1.5m long.

Marketplace guide →

eBay

A good fit for tools, parts and hardware, with flexible listing formats for large ranges.

Marketplace guide →

OnBuy

A UK general marketplace that can add sales for established tool and hardware ranges with good product data.

Marketplace guide →

The Range

A home and leisure retailer with a marketplace open to applications, worth considering for home improvement and garden tools.

Watch out for

What makes this category different.

Power tools and machinery rules

Under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, power tools and other machinery need UKCA or CE marking and a matching UK or EU declaration of conformity, with technical documentation available on request. Electrical accessories such as extension leads and work lights come under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 instead.

Knives and bladed tools

It's an offence to sell knives to under-18s. Bladed products sold online can't be delivered to lockers, or to residential premises unless the carrier has procedures to hand them only to someone aged 18 or over. The Crime and Policing Act 2026 will add photo ID checks at sale and delivery once those sections come into force.

Chemicals and corrosive products

Paints, adhesives and solvents may need hazard labelling under GB CLP, and online listings for hazardous mixtures must state the type of hazard when buyers can't see the label first. Products on the corrosives list can't be sold to under-18s, and if sold online can't be delivered to residential premises or lockers.

Retailer marketplaces check sellers

B&Q puts every seller through an extensive verification of regulatory, legal and quality requirements, and most seller items aren't available for Click + Collect or Named Day Delivery. Clean product data and accurate delivery times matter before you apply.

How we help

What we do for you.

Detailed technical listings

Power ratings, voltages, dimensions, fittings and compatible accessories set out clearly, so buyers can compare and buy with confidence.

Listing optimisation →

Product feeds for B&Q and others

Retailer marketplaces ask for detailed attributes. We build and maintain feeds that meet each one's data requirements.

Restricted product checks

We flag bladed, corrosive and hazardous products in your range and make sure listings, labelling details and delivery settings match the rules.

Retailer marketplace launch

We prepare your catalogue and help you apply to selective marketplaces such as B&Q, then get your range live and checked.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Can we sell knives and bladed tools on marketplaces?
Yes, but with care. You can't sell to under-18s, and bladed products sold online need a delivery service with procedures to hand them only to someone aged 18 or over, never to a locker. Stricter photo ID checks are on the way under the Crime and Policing Act 2026. Each marketplace also has its own rules, so we check those for your products.
Do our power tools need UKCA marking?
They need UKCA or CE marking. Great Britain now accepts either, and the machinery rules require a declaration of conformity and technical documentation to back the marking up. We make sure the details on your listings match your documents.
How do we get on the B&Q marketplace?
You apply through B&Q's merchant portal, and B&Q verifies every seller against regulatory, legal and quality requirements. A clean catalogue with full attributes, accurate stock and reliable delivery makes the process smoother. A free 20-minute demo is a good place to talk through what to fix first.
Can we sell paints, adhesives and solvents online?
Yes, as long as they're classified and labelled correctly under GB CLP. If a buyer can't see the label before buying, your listing must state the type of hazard. Amazon also asks for safety data sheets for possible dangerous goods sent to its warehouses, which we gather as part of listing them.
What does it cost for a DIY and tools business?
Tool and hardware ranges often run to hundreds of products, and the size of your range is one of the things that shapes the cost. Costs depend on the channels you want to sell on, how many products you have and how much help you need. We give you a clear quote after a free 20-minute demo.
