Shopify Collective

Sell through other shops, not just your own.

Shopify Collective lets UK Shopify stores sell each other's products. We find the right partner stores, set up price lists and payouts, and keep orders, stock and returns running properly.

The problem

Your ideal customers are already shopping in other independent online stores, and many of them may never come across your website.

We find complementary UK stores, agree the terms and set up pricing, payouts, stock and returns so both sides know where they stand.

Finding the right partners

Collective only works when a partner store's customers want your products. Researching and approaching stores takes time most businesses don't have.

Rules that trip people up

Both stores must be based in the same country and use the same currency, and each needs Shopify Payments with active payouts. UK stores also need an eligible tax setup and a verified VAT status.

Margins and returns to agree

Suppliers set the retailer's margin in a price list, and under the default returns policy the supplier handles returns. Get the terms wrong and one side loses out.

What we do

What's included. Done by the people you talk to.

Eligibility check

We check your store meets Shopify's requirements: an active Shopify plan, Shopify Payments with active payouts and, for UK stores, Shopify Tax, Basic Tax or a third-party tax app plus a verified VAT status. Digital products and gift cards can't be shared.

Finding partner stores

We look for UK Shopify stores whose customers suit your products: a dog-bed shop selling your treats, say, or a garden centre's online shop selling your planters.

Price lists and margins

As a supplier, you set a retailer margin in your price list. On a product that retails at £100 with a 30% margin, the retailer keeps £30 and pays you £70. Retailers can change the retail price, but not the cost price you receive.

Payouts

With automatic payments switched on, the cost price is taken from the retailer's Shopify Payments balance and sent to the supplier once the order is marked as fulfilled. Shopify doesn't charge extra for automatic payments.

Orders, stock and fulfilment

Orders appear in the supplier's Shopify admin to ship direct to the customer, and the order shows as fulfilled in both stores. We make sure stock levels and dispatch times are accurate so partners can rely on them.

Returns policy

We set up returns between you and each partner. Under Shopify's default policy for newer retailers, the supplier processes returns, with a 30-day return window and no label or restocking fee.

What you get
  • Your products in front of customers who already trust another shop.
  • Or, as a retailer, more products to sell without buying stock up front.
  • Margins, payouts and returns agreed before anything goes live.
  • Orders and stock that stay in step with your own store.
How it works

From first call to running.

1

Check fit

We confirm your store is eligible and whether you're better as a supplier, a retailer or both. One business can be both.

2

Find partners

We shortlist complementary UK stores and approach them with you.

3

Set terms

We set up price lists, margins, payouts and returns, and you approve them before anything goes live.

4

Run and review

We keep an eye on orders, stock and payouts, and report on what each partnership sells.

FAQ

Shopify Collective questions.

Is Shopify Collective available in the UK?
Yes, the United Kingdom is a supported country. The catch is that you can only connect with stores in the same country using the same currency, so a UK store selling in pounds partners with other UK stores selling in pounds.
What does Shopify Collective cost?
Shopify says Collective is free to use with all Shopify plans, subject to store eligibility. You still pay for your Shopify plan as usual, and the retailer keeps the margin set in the supplier's price list.
Who ships the orders?
The supplier. Orders appear in the supplier's Shopify admin and are shipped straight to the customer, while the shipping confirmation email comes from the retailer's store.
Can retailers change our prices?
Retailers can raise or lower the retail price of products they import, but that doesn't change the cost price you receive. To change the cost price, they need to agree it with you.
Can we partner with stores in Ireland or the EU?
Not through Collective while your store is based in the UK. Both stores must be based in the same country and use the same currency.
