Handmade and personalised

Handmade and personalised, without the marketplace admin taking over.

Marketplaces bring buyers looking for something made with care, but each one has its own rules on what counts as handmade, how personalisation works and what you have to take back. We set up and run your shops so the admin doesn't eat your working week.

Book a 20-minute demoWhat we do
The problem

Handmade businesses rarely have spare hours for marketplace admin.

We set up and manage your marketplace shops, keep them within each platform's rules and price every product with all the fees in view. We can also get your work into the right independent gift shops, galleries and design stores through retail and wholesale.

Every order is different

Personalised orders need clear options and quick replies. Unclear listings lead to wrong details, remakes and unhappy customers.

Rules on what qualifies

Etsy and Amazon Handmade each set their own standards for what can be sold, and listings that don't meet them can be removed.

Fees add up quietly

Listing, transaction, payment and advertising fees stack up on every sale. Without checking, a good product can end up barely profitable.

Where to sell

The channels that suit you. And why.

Etsy

The natural home for handmade. Etsy's Creativity Standards allow items made, designed, handpicked or sourced by the seller.

Marketplace guide →

Amazon

Amazon Handmade is application-only. The £25 a month (plus VAT) plan fee is waived for approved sellers after the first month, with a 12.24% referral fee.

Marketplace guide →

eBay

Flexible listing formats suit one-off pieces, small batches and made-to-order items, and reach a broad UK audience.

Marketplace guide →

TikTok Shop

Personalised gifts and behind-the-scenes production make strong short videos, which is how many products get found on TikTok Shop.

Marketplace guide →

Fruugo

Sells into over 40 countries, and doesn't require barcodes for personalised or custom-made products.

Watch out for

What makes this category different.

Etsy's Creativity Standards

Etsy only allows items made by the seller, designed by the seller (including designs produced by a production partner), handpicked by the seller (such as vintage) or sourced by the seller (such as craft supplies and items personalised with a buyer's own text or image). Production partners must be disclosed, with accurate dispatch information.

Personalised items and returns

Online buyers usually have 14 days to cancel an order, but that right doesn't apply to goods made to the customer's specifications or clearly personalised. Make sure your listings and shop policies say which items this covers.

Product safety applies to small makers too

Making goods for sale is a sign you're trading as a business, and products you sell to consumers must be safe. Some items have their own rules: handmade toys fall under the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, and OPSS says regular marketplace sellers are not exempt.

Fees stack up on every sale

At the time of writing (October 2026), Etsy charges a listing fee per item and a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus delivery and gift wrap, plus a UK payment processing fee of 4% + £0.20. Offsite Ads take 15% of the sales they bring in, or 12% once a shop passes $10,000 a year in sales, at which point they can't be switched off.

FAQ

Questions we get asked.

Should we sell on Etsy or Amazon Handmade?
They suit different shoppers, and you can sell on both. Etsy is built around handmade, vintage and craft supplies. Amazon Handmade puts you in front of Amazon shoppers but needs an approved application first. In a free 20-minute demo we look at your products and prices and show where you could start.
Do we have to accept returns on personalised items?
Not under the 14-day cancellation right. The Consumer Contracts Regulations exclude goods made to the customer's specifications or clearly personalised. Say so clearly in your listings and shop policies, and check each marketplace's own returns rules too.
Can we use a production partner and still sell on Etsy?
Yes. Etsy allows your original designs to be produced with the help of a production partner, as long as you disclose the partner and give accurate information about where items are dispatched from. We make sure those details are set up correctly on every listing.
How much does Amazon Handmade cost?
The Professional plan is £25 a month plus VAT, but Amazon waives it for approved Handmade sellers after the first month. Amazon then deducts a 12.24% referral fee on each sale. Fulfilment and advertising costs are separate.
What does it cost for a small handmade business?
For a small range, the work usually covers account setup, listing uploads and improvements, health checks, basic order management and a monthly report. Costs depend on the channels you want to sell on, how many products you have and how much help you need. We give you a clear quote after a free 20-minute demo. There's no minimum term.
